Buying Guide — Shower Panels
The Best Shower Panel Systems of 2026 (and the Case for the Category)
A shower panel bolts a full spa — rainfall head, body jets, handheld, thermostatic control — onto your existing plumbing in an afternoon. The internet is full of reasons to be suspicious of the category. Most of them describe cheap panels, not good ones. Here is how VIGO's stainless-and-aluminum systems answer the objections, and the best panels to buy this year.
The Dilana 6-jet panel in stainless steel: a 2.5 GPM rainfall head, six body jets and a handheld, all fed by standard 1/2 in. connections.
A shower panel system is the fastest route from an ordinary shower to a multi-function one: a single wall-mounted tower that adds a rain head, massage jets, a handheld wand and — on VIGO's full panels — integrated thermostatic control, without opening the wall or re-plumbing the valve.

One function at full strength at a time: the EZ Divert knob switches between rain head, jets and handheld.
01 — The Pressure Question
No, a good panel does not kill your water pressure
The most common argument against shower panels is that splitting one supply line across a rain head, six jets and a handheld leaves every outlet weak. That is a real failure mode — of panels that run everything at once. VIGO panels are engineered the other way: the published spec on every panel reads "Simultaneous body jet and overhead flow: No." The EZ Divert valve sends full flow to one function at a time — the entire 2.5 GPM to the rain head, or the entire 2.5 GPM through the jets — so nothing is ever divided.
The second version of the complaint — jets that weaken and die within a year or two — is a scale problem, not a pressure problem. VIGO's answer is published on every panel page: INNER GUARD jet engineering, designed to resist the mineral buildup that clogs massage jets, plus easy-maintenance nozzles. Pair that with a monthly wipe-down and the jets keep working like the spec sheet says.
- Full flow to one function at a time — never split
- 2.5 GPM on the 6-jet stainless panels
- INNER GUARD anti-clog jet engineering
- Thermostatic cartridge holds your set temperature

The Elan Bowery in matte black: aluminum body, stainless head, brass controls — and no wall surgery to install it.
02 — The Build and the Install
Metal where it matters, and no re-plumbing
"Cheap plastic under a shiny shell" is a fair description of the bargain-bin end of this category. It is not how VIGO builds panels, and the materials are published SKU by SKU: the 6-jet Dilana and Mateo are stainless steel-bodied with stainless steel shower heads; the 4-jet and 2-jet panels pair aluminum bodies with stainless heads; and the handles and hardware are brass across the line. Every panel carries VIGO's Limited Lifetime Warranty.
The other honest comparison is against custom in-wall body-jet systems — the kind that genuinely do need a re-engineered valve, supply upsizing and a tile-out renovation. A panel sidesteps all of it: wall-mount installation, standard 1/2 in. compression connections, and on the retrofit models you keep your existing shower handle and valve entirely — the panel simply replaces what is above it. That is the whole trade: ninety percent of the custom spa experience, a small fraction of the plumbing bill.

Questions, answered
What is the best shower panel system in 2026?
VIGO's Dilana 6-Jet is the strongest overall pick: a stainless steel tower rated at the 2.5 GPM federal maximum, with six anti-clog body jets, a 7 in. rain head, a handheld on a 58 in. hose and integrated thermostatic control, from $509.90. The Mateo offers the same stainless 6-jet architecture for less, and the Orchid Retrofit delivers the category's core upgrade under $300.
Do shower panels lower your water pressure?
Well-designed panels do not run all functions at once. VIGO panels use a diverter — the published spec is "Simultaneous body jet and overhead flow: No" — so the full flow goes to one function at a time and pressure is never split between outlets. Pressure complaints in the category typically trace to always-on multi-outlet designs or scale-clogged jets.
Do shower panels need special plumbing?
No. VIGO panels are wall-mounted and connect to standard 1/2 in. plumbing — the panel installs where a shower already exists. Retrofit models (Orchid) go further and keep your existing shower handle and valve, replacing only what is above the wall. Custom in-wall body-spray systems are the ones that require re-engineered valves and renovation.
Are shower panels made of plastic?
Cheap ones often are. VIGO publishes materials per model: the 6-jet Dilana and Mateo have stainless steel panel bodies, the 4- and 2-jet panels are aluminum-bodied, and every model uses a stainless steel shower head with brass handles and hardware, covered by VIGO's Limited Lifetime Warranty.
