What Size Shower Door Do I Need? The Measuring Guide
Shower doors are not bought in single sizes — they are bought in ranges, and the right range is decided by a tape measure, not a guess. Here is how to measure an opening the way an installer does, how VIGO's adjustable width bands work from 30 inches to 72, and which door fits the most common US openings.

In short:
- Measure the finished opening — after tile and wall panels are in — at the bottom, middle and top, and use the smallest number to pick your range.
- VIGO sliding doors come in 4-inch adjustable bands (44–48 through 68–72 in.); pivot doors cover 6-inch bands starting at 30–36 in.
- Heights run 72 to 76 in.; tub doors run lower, and fixed screens are a single 34 in. width.

- Also check curb width, walk-through space, left/right preference and swing clearance before ordering.
Three measurements, one rule
Measure like an installer
VIGO's published measuring guidance is short and strict. First: "Always measure after the tile, wall panels, curb, and other finished materials have been installed" — tile and backer materials change the final opening. Second: "Measure the width in at least three locations: Across the bottom of the opening / Across the middle / Across the top." Walls are rarely straight or parallel, so the three numbers will disagree. Third, the rule that settles every borderline case: "Use the smallest measurement when checking whether a door fits within the manufacturer's supported adjustment range."
Then round out the picture: measure the full height, the curb or threshold width, and the walk-through space you will actually have. VIGO's published pre-order checklist adds the practical questions — whether the walls are plumb, whether the door will hang left or right, whether a pivot door has swing clearance, and whether the wall behind the hardware offers adequate structural support. One more published caution worth taking seriously: "Glass panels can be extremely heavy. Even products designed with straightforward installation in mind generally require at least two people for safe handling."

Bands, not sizes
How VIGO's size ranges work
Every VIGO sliding door is sold in a 4-inch adjustable band — the flagship Elan alone spans seven of them, 44–48 through 68–72 in., at 74 in. tall. Inside each band, the hardware does the fitting: "Engineered for precision, RollerDisk™ offers 3/8 in. of adjustability, while SmartAdjust™ adds 1/2 in. more for a perfect fit." That is how one door accommodates a 57 3/4-inch opening whose top measures 57 7/8 — and why the smallest of your three measurements is the number that matters.
The walk-in opening scales with the band. On the Elan it climbs from 16–20 in. at the 44–48 size to 28–32 in. at 68–72 — VIGO publishes the walk-through range for every size on the product page. Pivot doors work the same way with more reach: the Pirouette covers 6-inch bands from 30–36 in. up to 60–66 in., with its own published out-of-plumb engineering — "a 1/2-inch built-in adjustability in the structural arm and 3/8-inch flexibility in the glass supports." Fixed screens skip the band system entirely: one 34-inch width, no door.

From 30 inches to 72
Doors by opening size
Around 48 in.: the Elan or E-Class 44–48 band — and remember the tie-breaker at exactly 48: use the smallest of your three measurements. The Pirouette's 42–48 pivot band covers the same territory when you prefer a swing door. Around 54 in.: the 52–56 sliding band, or Pirouette 48–54. At 60 in. — the most common US alcove: everything shows up: Elan, E-Class, VMotion™ and Hart Elan all offer 56–60 bands, the Meridian hinged door covers 59.5–60, and over a bathtub the Luca tub door takes the same 56–60 span. At 72 in.: the 68–72 bands of the Elan, E-Class, VMotion™ and Hart Elan.
Under 44 in.: no VIGO sliding door goes there — this is pivot territory, with the Pirouette's 30–36 and 36–42 bands, or a 34-inch fixed screen for an open walk-in. How do I measure for a shower door?

What size shower door fits a 60-inch opening?

My opening measures exactly 48 inches — which range do I buy?
Apply VIGO's published rule: measure at the bottom, middle and top, and use the smallest number. If the smallest of the three sits at or under 48 in., the 44–48 band is the fit; the door's RollerDisk™ and SmartAdjust™ hardware handles the fine adjustment inside the range.
What if my opening is narrower than 44 inches?
Sliding doors stop at 44 in., so go pivot or fixed: the Pirouette pivot door covers 30–36 and 36–42 in. bands with a published 20–26 in. walk-through, and 34-inch fixed screens serve open, doorless walk-ins.
Are VIGO shower doors adjustable for crooked walls?
Yes — that is the point of the band system.
