The Short Answer

Four real ones. Strong dyes and harsh chemicals can mark the matte surface if left to sit; abrasive scrubbing changes the sheen before it removes anything; repairs, while genuinely possible, take fifteen minutes of hand-sanding rather than a wipe; and a classic thick-walled Matte Stone™ vessel outweighs a comparable ceramic one, so check your vanity’s rating.

Limit 01 — Dyes & harsh chemicals

Non-porous is not stain-proof. Hair dye, dyed drain cleaners, nail polish, and red wine left overnight can bond to the matte micro-texture and leave a shadow. Limit 03 — Repairs are real, not magic

“Repairable” means a competent 15-minute hand job with wet-dry sandpaper, not self-healing. You must re-blend the sheen across a wider area than the scratch itself, or you trade a scratch for a shiny patch. Deep gouges and cracks through the wall are beyond DIY — that’s what the limited lifetime warranty is for.

Limit 04 — Weight versus ceramic

Mineral-loaded composite is denser than thin-walled vitreous china: a classic Matte Stone™ vessel noticeably outweighs a comparable ceramic bowl. Wet-sand the scratch with 400–600 grit wet-dry paper in small circles, refine with 800–1200 grit until the mark disappears, then blend the sheen across the surrounding area with a non-scratch pad and rinse.   1. Clean and assess. Wash the area with mild soap and water, dry it, and check the mark under raking light. Surface scuffs and fine scratches are DIY territory; a crack or a gouge you can catch a fingernail in deeply is a warranty conversation, not a sanding job.
  2. Level with 400–600 grit. Using wet-dry sandpaper kept wet, sand the scratch in light, small circles. Keep the pressure even and the area small — you are removing microns, not millimeters.
  3. Refine with 800–1200 grit. Step up in grit and widen your circles slightly, feathering the worked zone into the untouched finish until the original mark is gone.
  4. Re-blend the matte. With a non-scratch pad (or a final pass of your finest grit), even out the sheen across an area noticeably larger than the repair so no glossy or dull island remains.
  5. Rinse and inspect. Wash away all slurry, dry, and re-check under raking light. Done correctly, you should not be able to find the repair — that is the color-through advantage, and it is a sentence no glazed-ceramic manufacturer can write.
